bridgey barringer <3

hehe bridgey. cutie.

my new favorite thing to eat everyday... HOMEMADE SALSA!

salsa has always been my favorite snack and now i have created a secret recipe. but it won't be secret anymore after i write it down right now. here you go:

cut up fresh tomatoes, or half can of canned tomatoes (pre-chopped)
some cilantro, minced
some garlic powder (or real garlic if you have it)
some onion powder
red pepper flakes
a little bit of lime juice
salt

it's that easy! and i mean it's pretty healthy cause it's mostly tomatoes.. just don't add too much salt and you're good to go.

Can I just say,

I'm SO EXCITED for fall/halloween/pumpkins. I'm going to try to go to as many haunted houses as possible, and scare the crap out of myself! AND I'm planning on going to the Winchester Mystery House's flashlight tour, how can I have lived in this area my whole life and never been to such a place?! I think I'm going to be Wilma Flintstone for Halloween. :) and I think you should be Sally! I've always wanted to be that but have always been too lazy to make or buy the costume. Do it! and you should paint your face all crazylike. Speaking of Halloween, a Spirit opened in the el paseo shopping center, and I took Claire and Lucas there. Can I just say HOW FREAKIN COOL THE DECORATIONS ARE THIS YEAR! Like a flying broom, huge hanging tarantulas, HUGE human size dead bodies that move and say stuff, a crawling guy on the floor, just sweet stuff. and the kids were SO SCARED it was soo sad and cute. You hear Claire mumble, "Monster scare me!" and grab onto my legs! and Lucas literally yell across the whole store, "AHH! IT'S A GHOOSTTTTT!"

Also excited for:
+those random huge slides at big pumpkin patches
+late night old scary movies
+CHEAP candy at safeway
+pumpkin bagels/pumpkin seeds
+rain!

:)

And something healthy: I've been eating a lot of boiled eggs lately! I feel like they're so good for you and they're yummy! And precut fruit at safeway when I'm lazy. Soo amazing. And swimming, mom & I have decided that we're going to go swimming everyday for half an hour. We went into the pool today and it was literally an ice cube, but SO refreshing and so good for your circulation!

Tata for now sucka!

Life's no fun without a good scare

Hey qt!~

Sounds like you are going in a good direction and making some healthy food choices.
very niiiiiiiice.

today i substituted kale for spinach in my smoothie. kale has a much stronger taste and more earthy.. and by earthy, i kind of mean it tastes like dirt. and it still tasted alright but i'd recommend the spinach. i have heard, however, that kale is the most nutritious green. so who knows. check out nutrition information here and judge for yourself---> http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=38

speaking of Halloween, today i watched Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO for the first ever, which is ridiculous cause it's a classic. and i have to say i was not let down.. it's worth watching.

I am debating between being MARGOT TENENBAUM and SALLY (from nightmare before christmas.) I actually bought the sally costume on ebay, but it's kind of cheap looking like a little kids costume. as for being margot, she wears a tennis dress and a fur jacket and tons of eyeliner. i already have a fur jacket (don't ask) and the rest of the costume would be easy to put together.
But i feel like it would end up like last year when i was The Dude, where half the people i see are like SWEET COSTUME, and the other half are like, what are you supposed to be? anyway, maybe if anyone is reading this blog you can leave a comment and vote?

what are you gonna be bridgey?? <3
HEY GIRL! sorry it took me forever. I lack the modivation to get on the computer these days. Dude that soup looks really delicious. I'll let you know if I decide to make it!

Recent obsessions: TRADER JOES!
The family I work for pretty much only shops there, so I have a huge advantage and it could be a lot easier for me to work healthy. Things I have been eating recently: 1 cup of blueberries. Handfuls of popped vegetable sticks --> (dipped in garlic humus-SCRUMPTIOUS!). Vitamin water-acai pomegranite-blueberry (yeah yeah it has sugar in it but better than soda right?) SO good, and semi-healthy. For desert: non-fat frozen yogurt MM!! I've also been trying to go on walks with the kids (pushing a stroller) and even running sometimes. They also got me a membership at the YMCA, which I still haven't taken advantage of :( but they have like sweet classes there that look super chill and fun. ugh make me go!

What are you going to be for Halloween girl?!

Happy Autumn :)

As anyone who knows me would know, I LOVE FALL! So to celebrate the (I think) second day of fall today, I decided to make butternut squash soup. Soup is so delicious and usually pretty healthy! I forgot to take pictures of the beginning of the process, aka me cutting up the onions and the squash, but at least I got a pic of the halfway point and of the final product. Here they are.. and forgive me as they were taken by my camera phone.

So I just finished eating that bowl of soup shown above and I know you're quite jealous, but don't worry. I'm about to share the recipe with you.

1 large butternut squash, diced into 1 inch squares
1 1/2 large yellow onion, chopped
2 apples peeled and cut into chunks
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups chicken stock
1 cup apple cider
1 cup water
Nutmeg, cinnamon, and curry powder
Salt and pepper

Cut squash into 1-inch chunks. Cut and peel apples. Slice onion. Add olive oil to a large pot. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 6 minutes. Add squash, apples, stock, cider, and water. Bring to a simmer and cook until squash is tender, about 30 minutes. Remove squash chunks with slotted spoon and place in a blender and puree. Return blended squash to pot. Stir and season to taste with a little nutmeg, some cinnamon, curry powder, and salt and pepper. Serve.

EASY RIGHT? And so delicious. And healthy. I'm telling you. I'm going to get seconds right now.

employment and diet coke

HEY THERE! since some people, coughbridget, don't like to write in this i guess i'll just write an update. well i got a JOB! at borders! so that's a big relief. i start monday and i'll let you know how that goes.

Well, as for a health update, a lot of people try to convince me that drinking DIET SODA is okay, and i guess they think that because it has zero calories. but here's something i found that will put an end to this debate once and for all. eh hem:

The ingredients in Diet Coke are listed in order of greatest to least amount:

1. Carbonated Water (negligible cause of dental erosion)
2.
Caramel Color (carmelized sugar)
3.
Aspartame (CARCINOGENIC TOXIN, turns into formaldehyde once it digests in your body, took over 8 times and a change *ahem, cheaters* in the board of the FDA to finally get approved by the FDA)
4.
Phosphoric Acid (It provides a "tangy" taste, and, being a mass-produced chemical, is available cheaply and in large quantities, used to acidify cola)
5.
Potassium Benzoate (to protect taste. In combination with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium and potassium benzoate may form benzene, a known carcinogen)
6.
Natural Flavors (the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or any other edible portions of a plant, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose primary function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional.)
7.
Citric Acid (Excessive consumption is capable of eroding the tooth enamel. Close contact to the eyes can cause a slight burning sensation, and may cause loss of sight.)
8.
Caffeine (bitter white crystalline xanthine alkaloid that acts as a psychoactive stimulant drug and a mild diuretic)

ps-that picture is the result of combining mentos and diet coke. scary.

xo, addie

Let's start from the beginning

Hellllllo to Bridge and anyone one else who happens to read this. I decided to make this blog for a few reasons.

1. Cause me and bridget are cute. (see above)
2. So we could keep up with each others lives a little better...
3. So we can help each other learn about how to be healthier, share nutrition tips, and inspire each other to work out etc
4. So our families can stalk us if they want :)

So here we go. I have been getting really interested in nutrition and health for the past year or so. I'll admit, I still eat fast food every once and a while but I try to incorporate more fruits and vegetables and also supplements into my diet. And definitely NO SODA! Not even diet... it's like the worst thing for anyone EVER, but we'll leave that to another blog ;)

For now i want to share about a really tasty and healthy smoothie i have invented and have been trying to drink everyday. These are the ingredients:

1.Mixed berries (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries)
2. A few pineapple slices and some pineapple juice
3. 1/4 of a banana (I don't like the smoothie to be too frothy)
4. A handful of spinach
5. 5 or 6 baby carrots
6. Strawberry yogurt
7. Orange juice

Now don't be turned off by the spinach and carrots! I promise you can't even taste them! And what's awesome is, this smoothie has 4 out of the 8 foods you're supposed to eat EVERYDAY!
Which are: Spinach, carrots, blueberries, yogurt, black beans, tomatoes, oats, and nuts.

Bridge or anyone else-let me know if you try the smoothie and what you think. XOXO<3
